Electronic waste or e-waste is a phrase used to refer to all manner of electronics gadgets and equipment, such as TVs, radios, refrigerators, microwaves, electronic watches, computers, printers, scanners, cameras, notebooks, light bulbs, mobile phones and their accompanying peripherals which are rendered unusable for one reason or another and wind up being dumped into the environment.



It's becoming a frequent tendency to recycle electronic waste instead of merely disposing it because, this guarantees that resources in the environment are reasonably and cost-effectively conserved. This is because a number of these parts and components of electronic waste are usually reusable, for example plastic components, metals at the micro-circuit planks, glass in the cathode ray tubes and so forth.

Secondly, electronic waste is one of the key causes of environmental pollution. Aside from visual pollution a number of the components and parts of the electronics, such as cathode ray tubes, contain dangerous substances like lead that if left untreated from the environment may make their way to human ingestion resulting in ill effects on health. Recycling thus stops this from occurring and also goes a step towards creating a cleaner environment not as likely to the probability of damaging substance exposure to individuals.



Electronic waste is generally recycled in a two step procedure; treatment and sorting.

Sorting is the comprehensive separation of the bulk of electronic waste into distinct material categories, for example: plastics, metals, wood, glass, rubber and so forth.

Treatment is the actual processing of the groups or groups of sorted electronic waste, usually by different processing entities for every category of substance or element.

E-waste processing techniques

Plastics are melted down and remade to other useful articles.

Glass out of cathode ray tubes is generally reused in making of new cathode ray tube monitors. (Cathode ray tubes contain high levels of lead that's highly toxic.)

Mercury, a widespread noxious substance is usually expressed and reused in dental practice while magnesium got from bulbs is used to make fertilizer.



Wood from old generation electronics (speakers, radios and television sets) is generally shredded and used in agriculture or to make gas substance.

Additionally, there are certain machine parts that are expressly delivered back to the manufacturer for recycling, for example printer toner cartridges. Here we see that recycling doesn't necessarily mean actively doing the therapy of the electronic waste, but might also be about categorizing and sending off the components back to the maker (for those manufacturers that recycle).
